Tricyrtis has dark green foliage, and thick rather waxy-looking flowers that look rather like orchid flowers, and which can be star-shaped, funnel-shaped or bell-shaped. usually freckled, which gives them their name. 'Purple Beauty' has star-shaped pale lilac with purple-spotted flowers, in late summer.
