Flowering

From Late Summer TO Early Autumn

Thistle-like flowers appear in late Summer into Autumn

Planting

From Late Spring TO Early Summer

If grown from seed, plant out into individual pots when they are large enough to handle, and grow them on for their first year in the greenhouse. Then, in the following Spring, after all risk of frost has passed, harden off the seedlings before planting them out to their permanent position in moist, free-draining soil in late Spring or early Summer.

Propagating by seed

From Early Spring TO Mid Spring

Sow seed in a cold frame or in a seed tray in the greenhouse, in Spring. Surface sow or only just cover the seed and do not allow the compost to dry out. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, prick them out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for their first Winter.
