Papaver somniferum is a subtype of opium poppy which grow to about 60 to 90cm tall and has thick, hairy stems and lettuce like leaves. The seed pods are well-suited for crafts and dried floral arrangements. Most annual varieties will readily self-seed. 'Peshawar' bears showy large white flowers – approximately 7 to 10 per plant – that are followed by large seed pods with substantial white seeds, often used for baking. The flowers are very attractive to bees and other beneficial flying insects.
