Edelweiss 'Maischnee'

Leontopodium alpinum, commonly called edelweiss is a well-known mountain flower. The plant prefers rocky limestone places. The leaves and flowers are covered with white hairs and appear woolly. Each bloom consists of five to six small yellow clustered florets surrounded by fuzzy white bracts in a double star formation. The flowers bloom between mid and late summer.

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Plant in early spring in an open, sunny site in firm but well drained sandy soil.

 

Propogation by seed

From Late Winter TO Early Spring

Sow seeds in late winter/early spring in pans 2 parts potting compost number 1 and 1 part grit and place in a cold frame. Prick off the seedlings in late spring and transfer to boxes. Transfer again to 3 inch pots when the plants are well developed. Grow on in the frame and plant out the following early spring.
