'Tortoiseshell' has glossy, heart-shaped, dark, bronze-black leaves to 5cm long and flowers with bright yellow, glossy petals. It prefers bare, damp ground. 'Ficaria verna' has glossy, dark green, heart-shaped leaves, and flowers with between 8 and 12 glossy, bright yellow petals. The flowers appear in mid Spring.
