Carline Thistle is a clump-forming, short-lived perennial or biennial plant that forms rosettes of spiny green leaves. In late Summer it bears stemless flowers, usually silvery white, sometimes that are pinnate, spiny, mid- to dark green leaves and, in mid- to late summer, stemless, daisy-like silver-white, sometimes pinkish flowers that have a brown centre. Once planted it does not like to be moved. Makes good dried flowers.:Bronze' has bronze-green foliage.
