Ampelopsis are vigorous self-clinging deciduous woody climbers with lobed or pinnate leaves, and rather insignificant greenish flowers that are followed by blue or black berries. 'Elegans' bears heart-shaped 3-5 lobed, variegated leaves, green with white and pink mottling, and clusters of greenish flowers in Summer that are followed by pink-purple berries that turn blue
