This was taken a few weeks ago (21 May 2024) and I forgot to post it. The #stingingnettle is doing great but I've been so busy I haven't had a chance yet to use it. #urtica-dioica #edible #ediblelandscaping #101uses #eattheweeds #medicinal #useful #permacullture #ouch

My friend sent me a video of how to make nettle into cordage -- yet another thing this plant is good for. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C74V-tzIiiz/?igsh=MXJhaGxyN2VndHo2dA==

The small green patches are the #stingingnettle that I planted earlier this year. I completely and totally ignored it after planting, and it LIVED! 29 Oct 2023 #urtica-dioica #101uses #medicinal #native #edible #ediblelandscaping #nativeplant #stunmethod #ifitwantstoliveitllfight

You planted stinging nettles 🤔.

@charlotte yes! They're great when the leaves are dried & made into tea. 🫖 They can be cooked like spinach (the stinging spines aren't an issue when cooked).

Stinging nettles are also an important food source for the caterpillars of certain types of butterfly.🦋

Gardening tip: if you ignore invasive plants like stinging nettle they will definitely thrive lol

Earlier this spring when I harvested that huge bunch of #stingingnettle I dug a couple of shallow curved trenches in the bed near the road, at the farthest end of the driveway. I envision a sweeping billowing curve of nettle covering the mulch and becoming a bountiful source of #edible #medicinal greens.

After planting, I then proceeded to walk away and completely forget about it. I didn't even take a picture. I didn't even water the transplants! Fast-forward to today when I'm pulling up a few weeds and a sting became a welcome surprise! THE PLANT WHO LIVED.

I'm still a few years away from the sweeping curved banks of nettles, but this is definitely a nonzero number of survivors in exchange for a healthy amount of Sheer Total Utter Neglect (a favorite gardening technique). 😱🙈 15 June 2023 #urtica-dioica #edible #ediblelandscaping #ifitwantstoliveitllfight #101uses #eattheweeds #permacullture #happyaccident #experiment #yay #itworked #stunmethod

Yay! The #stingingnettle I planted last year, which I thought had died, has come back this spring! 23 Apr 2022 #urtica-dioica #edible #ediblelandscaping

Set some aside for drying for tea. It's the best medicine available anywhere for hives, or if you have 1,000,000 mosquito bites 🦟

Mosquito bites? What do you do Eileen? Grind it up into a paste? @emch

Make tea out of it or swallow it in capsules. 3 capsules 3x a day and you feel almost human again

After some rain and some rest, it seems that the #stingingnettle is starting to establish itself in its new spot. #urtica-dioica #nettle #native #nativeplant #edible #eattheweeds #medicinal #101uses #ediblelandscaping 30 Apr 2021

So lovely that they established themselves so quickly. Thank you for posting this, reminded me to take a photo of mine. It tended to dominate last year so I transferred it all to a pot, (and last year also moved my white violets where nettle used to be, thank you for commenting).

I did it! I dug up a big chunk of #stingingnettle from a local wild patch and hauled it back to my yard and planted it. Only two stings. #urtica-dioica #medicinal #native #nativeplant #edible #101uses 27 Apr 2021
