Couple more shots of my #lithopshookeri that didn't make it. A lithops expert on fb said to remove the old dried leaves, and when I did it showed the plant had no chlorophyll left and its base was so dehydrated it was floppy. #lithopshookeri looks like a goner. I probably should have intervened as soon as I noticed his color fading, but I was busy with work and didn't get around to it. I pulled him out of the pot and his roots look nearly identical to when he arrived in December. If I ever get imported #lithops again I'm going to try waking up their roots with #watertherapy before potting. A few days of water therapy probably won't do much harm at this point. Nothing left to do now but experiment. 1 May 2018

Where did you import them from? I got my little seedlings on eBay. Just wondering if maybe we had the same source. It was from some person selling like 50 for $20 or something like that

I didn't import them myself. My husband got them from an etsy seller. I don't know for SURE that they were imported, but their roots were cut way way back like imported lithops tend to be, so I'm speculating. When I got my lithops from Mesa Garden they had much more developed roots.

This is what can happen when you get lithops with a poor root system in the mail and then scrupulously "follow the rules" and don't water them during winter. The plant had enough energy to start splitting, but its root system was too weak to get the nutrients it needed to keep growing. I gave it a good bottom-watering yesterday, but he's showing no improvement whatsoever, which means its roots have probably died. I'll pull it out of its pot tomorrow for an official autopsy.
