Experimenting With Plants: This is the only thing I could think of right now. I know that it's suggested to keep African Violet soil moist, but I read that stressing them out can encourage blooming. So I've been letting this baby get bone dry before I water it for several months, and I'm happy with the results. #experiment #houseplant #africanviolet #saintpaulia #purple #flowers #blooming

We just put our decorations up last night and we plan to make a candy shoot, so we can socially distance give out candy, in case we do get trick-or-treaters, since we have a lot of kids in the neighborhood.

I bought a african violet the other day at prairie gardens in champaign illinois. And it has 3 different ones in a same pot.

@emch I’m technically not shooting the candy at them. It’s called a candy shoot. Planning to get PVC pipe, wrap it in something festive and put it on the stair railing since it’s an upstairs apartment.

@savannahssucculentgarden I just got a pot specific to african violets, from a yardsale. The guy was selling pots for $1. Now i want to buy them and give them a try! Outside gardening and inside are two different things lol. I also have a TON of plant books and magazines. Gotta learn!

Nice colors, @savannahssucculentgarden l have AF with same color flowers coming, but yours has more leaves. Keep it up.

I do the watering with wicks. You thread yarn through soil and dangle it in water holding container. Keep it by the window but away from direct sun, like through blinds. Hope that helps :) ps l don't know how to do smilies with my phone.

I put water in the container when the water dries up. The soil would feel dry, but the wick keeps it just moist.
