Actually taken a few weeks ago. Then they got rain and wind damaged. Anyone know if they come back a second time in one season? #verbascum #yellow

Ah, thanks @ukjohnny ! I'd already cut back the stems a couple of weeks ago but the whole plant then went brown, however, I've noticed some new shoots and was wondering therefore if it might flower again- Fingers crossed 😀👍🏼

Never mind Franca - it's not been a great start to the summer but maybe now it's getting warmer and sunnier 😁☀️ @titchyfra

What a beauty and a lovely name. If it's a standard tall verbascum I cut off the main flower stem when it goes over and usually get 2 or 3 shorter ones shooting from the base. Your one looks shorter but it maybe just how the pic has been taken. It,being a biennial I usually put the spike at the back of the border so the seeds can distribute for succession.

So pretty I have a deep purple one that seeds itself anywhere it fancies!!!.... Even in the middle of my bonfire heap!!!😂

Hi Mo, yes I've got another Verbascum which is huge (not this one) and I've done the same thing, cut the main stem back and wait for the side shoots. This other one was about 3-4 ft tall. It flowered last year too so presuming perhaps it's a short lived perennial like Johnny suggests. But I wish now I'd done what you suggested and leave the seeds to form and fall back into the soil 😕. Maybe if I'll get new growth I'll do that as my back up plan 👍🏼 @angipangi

😀 @lisafaz sounds amazing, esp like the deep purple colour. That's encouraging if yours self seeds freely - just need to get some more growth and I'll save the seed 👍🏼

This Verbascum has been protected under my homemade #minicloches all winter, and all this #newgrowth has come up 😁 - might be time for me to take them off now that it's getting warmer. Will be keeping an eye on the weather though for surprise frosts #tips

I love verbascum and can't believe how strongly mine has come through the winter, even without protection. It must be quite sheltered where it is. Looking forward to seeing yours in Bloom. Pics if poss please ☺

Picked up a lovely Verbascum too in September. They are generally short lived perennials, but this one is said to be a bit more reliable. It's not in flower now - my photo was taken shortly after bringing it home. It's now settled in the border, planted 8th November 😀
