Some more 2022 seed sowing results - I bought these with a friend of mine when we went to the Iris Society show at RHS Wisley last spring 22 and they advised to sow the seed straight away, but it didn’t germinate immediately. The experts there did say if it got too warm after sowing then they would wait until colder autumn weather before they germinate. And as of December they now have! 🙂 #iris #irispacificcoasthybrids #iriscalifornianhybrids #pacificcoastiris #seed-germination
I’m very excited about the potential colours of these Karen, they were stunning at the show, annoyingly I forgot to get some pics so will have to wait for these to flower to show you @KOutdoors
I've never tried growing irises from seed Rich, although last year I joined the British Iris Society and it does seem to be the way to go. Good luck with your seedlings, will be interested to see what colours you get 🤞
So do I Richard that’s why I have six large pots of them cluttering up my shed and growhouse. Trying another method of growing, plus they arrived very late. 🤞🏻
Thanks! They made it sound very easy when we were chatting to them Sue, and is apparently the most easiest way to grow this type of Iris as they don’t transplant or divide particular easy. I’ve grown some other Iris by seed a few years ago (Iris orientalis) which also seemed relatively easy. Will keep my eye out for more I think - will keep you posted @churchfarmgarden

Patience rewarded
Looking very promising, Rich! 👍
It certainly is! They will hopefully be worth the wait as the flowers they had on display were gorgeous 🤩 @joannie.a
Thanks Barbara! I can’t remember how many I sowed exactly but I don’t think it was more than about 10 so it looks a good germination rate @jacaranda
Ah something else I struggle with and that’s not even growing from seed😂
Oops 😬🙊 - I do love an Iris…. @Auricula
