Alas, as pretty as this is, it ain’t Eucomis montana (scroll through to see earlier comments) - will find a new bulb source next spring to try again. In the meantime, I think this is probably just a comosa hybrid so I’ll change the tags for now. Nice dark stem though! 👌🏼 #eucomis #eucomis-comosa #pineapplelily

Peek-a-boo 🙈 - this is supposed to be species Eucomis montana, but I’m not sure yet if I’ve been sent the right one. Leaf shape looks different so I’ll wait for confirmation when the flowers open as they are quite unique 👍🏼 #eucomis #pineapplelily #eucomis-comosa

Oh that’s weird @bluefox23 - I didn’t even realise it had posted twice until about 2-3 hours after. I deleted the first one and kept second. I have seen that before where I just get a green screen but others seem to see it. Very strange 🤔 - any thoughts @ukgardentags

Starting to add some of my new Eucomis bulbs to the database - this one is Eucomis montana. Not sure what happened to the name on this record, as I understood this should be a straight species and not a 'variety' as suggested. UPDATE SEPT 2018 - this bulb turned out not to be Eucomis montana, but a comosa hybrid #eucomis #bulb #eucomis-comosa #pineapplelily

How deep do you plant them Rich and how long should it be before new growth starts to show? 🤔 planted 3 a few weeks ago and so far no sign of anything!

Hey Rachel, I've not planted them too deep - the recent advice I had was planting just below the soil level, although I have in the past planted them about 1.5 times their depth. Be prepared to wait a while - they can be asleep for at least a couple more months potentially until it gets warm. I had one last year that didn't appear until around August time 😳 @rachelbrooks

Ah ok! Thanks for the heads up! 👍🏼 I just read in the plant info you provided that they're better off in pots to start, which I've done and I've not planted them too deeply either (must've known that somewhere in the far corners of my mind!) I'll just wait now then...😬

No probs - try not to water them too much either till the growth really gets going. Mine had a little water about 2 weeks ago but not touched them since, and will probably give a bit more in another couple of weeks. @rachelbrooks
