Symphytum officinale (Common Comfrey). Photographed, 25 May 2017, at Reedie Cottage Gardens, East Scotland. Such a useful herbaceous plant to have in the garden. The bees simply love the flowers on this plant, which is usually buzzing with the noise of bees. At 150cm tall, I usually have to stake it, to keep it upright. Foliage is about 25cm long, with clusters of tubular bell-shaped, purple flowers 2cm in length. #comfrey #purpleflowers #reediecottagegarden

Symphytum officinale (Common Comfrey). Photographed today 19 Oct 2016, at Reedie Cottage Garden, East Scotland. Still going strong, and lots more flowers to come. Brilliant plant for structure/height, brilliant for bees, and brilliant as a fertisliser when leaves are left in a bucket.....Google "Comfrey as garden fertiliser" 😀 #comfrey #purplegiant #autumn #garden-fertiliser

Symphytum officinale or Common Comfrey. Huge herbaceous perennial, and can become a brute of not controlled!!! Bees love it! The leaves, if picked and soaked in water for a period, resulting in a bit of a yucky mass, once strained, the liquid makes a superb nitrogen rich feed for other plants. You need to water it down, so you don't need to add much to the water in your watering-can. Great plant!!!
