Just out of curiosity... has anyone eaten this #commonvetch ? It’s supposed to be an evasive vine from what I read so far. I picked a cutting from a walk at the college nearby because the flower was pretty. I didn’t know what it was then... but it has a nice color. I’m growing in a corner and in a pot to contain it as much as possible. But if it’s edible, then I can control by harvesting it. Thoughts? Thanks. 😊
You can eat the leaves but the seeds are iffy. If you want to eat them, you need to collect them young and boil them st least 3 times, throwing away the cooking water each time. Not really worth the effort in my book
I found some of this on my walk last fall too. I loved the flowers. It was growing all over a rock wall. May be I don't want to plant the seeds now. But in my area the deer are terrible and they weren't touching this stuff.
Thanks @lesliecole49 & @cyndi for the great info. @eroberts.teach check out Cyndi’s link. Interesting that deers don’t like them but horses do. Regardless, I agree w/you that the flowers are pretty. That’s why I picked a cutting and experimented. These plants are volunteers so I agree w/ some online sites that these may be invasive. There’s a Chinese peas leaves stir fry that I love. It’s only sold at end of season for $14. I’m gonna wait for enough leaves & see if it is comparable & cheaper. 😊
Welcome... its growing in my yard to not hard to just yanking up if it gets out of place.. it does help the soil too so not to much of a worry for me.. annoying sometimes but I dont really worry about it. Useful plant all around tho. Best wishes
#vetch friend or foe. I don’t know .. saw it at the school’s parking lot by the garden and took a cutting in late Feb. It was kinda weed like. But I liked the flower and here it is. #domsabode #niching
Thanks @cyndi I have it in a pot now and will heed to your advice and watch the pods. I’m already cutting back my morning glories back almost daily. Don’t need another task. Lol.
