It's fine it will grow nicely. Take a decent size container fill with soil place this stalk up with everything but the nubbly under soil. Water well keep warm inside till spring warms nicely for you then can place it in part shade morning sun afternoon shade to grow nicely. Don't over or underwater it. It will grow more rhizomes that later on you can harvest some of always leave some in your pot to keep growing. Bring indoors b4 gets cold again. Can grow indoors with enough warmth and light

Hello hope you are well....Yes needs to be able to drain. I just anything I have available. But if you use large round but slightly shallow but not to shallow that should work great for easier harvest.
