Could it be Peony Wilt? 🤔🤔

😭😭 @pelly

If it is you need to get rid of the affected leaves in your landfill bin. There is no chemical solution for it unfortunately 😟😟

Could it just be they are drying out? Or actually it could be ovetwatering?

I hope it's dried out a bit and not peony wilt😢I've snipped the bad bits off, watered and put in a shaded bit, it was in full sun, maybe it needs in the ground😕 @ublaszko @pelly

I hope so too Leno 😊😊

It's probably just too much sun. Mine are in full sun but behind tall perennials so not blasted by the sun. But one that was getting direct sun went to peony heaven 😅 It just couldn't take it even though I kept on top of watering and I only planted it a few months back. Luckily, I got 2 for 1 packs of each peony just for this kind of situation 😉

Oh he's not ready for peony heaven yet😅 must have faith😅 @ublaszko the shock of sun 😂 sun shock he'll be fine

I think mine is definitely a goner 😅 Unless it sprouts back once the weather cools down. I've kept it just in case. Your one is still kicking 😂

@jeatacake the black stuff came off with wet cotton buds but I moved some soil to see how far down it went and noticed this new bit sprouting. Do you or does anyone know if this is a sucker or a new stem? Should I snip it off or wait?😨 (the bit on the root ball)

I believe that is new growth, I wouldn't cut it off. Even tho it's called tree it is a shrub, you will have multiple stems!😁💘😍

Thanks @ShelleySnyder 😅I have a terrible urge to snip it off. I'm not sure if I've made it worse, i went a bit over the top with cotton buds and I think I've removed scales that are meant to be at the bottom #trialanderror 😕

It looks so different now👍 Hopefully it will thrive from here. Mine also has s new shoot coming up well away from the main one. As far as I know, they aren't grafted, so I will leave the new shoot on mine for a bushier plant, as @ShelleySnyder says 😊

@jeatacake I'm just noticing the black bits, is this normal? Resembles my cooking skills😅😕

Do you mean on the stem? If so I think it's ok as the new shoot looks good & healthy. It may be just be a natural feature of that variety 👍

@jeatacake I hope so. I don't want to bring it in now because it's done well outside & I brought 2x wisteria in to save them & they pretty much died overnight, I have one very sad wisteria left outside in plastic greenhouse. It has one or two leaves left.😕

Both wisteria & tree peony are as hard as nails so they will be fine outside. Their native winters are far colder.

Yeh, the stem. That's what I thought but I put him in the plastic greenhouse just incase but I take him out for fresh air and daylight everyday😂(peony)I'm sure he likes the snow but I can't experiment at this stage of the game😅 shouldn't try to fix what isn't broken. Wait 'til you see my only wisteria though😧 @jeatacake

Tibetan peony tree, I'll plant him in the ground in Spring so fingers crossed he survives winter 😊

Should be ok if not too wet 👍 Do you know what the flowers will look like?

2w

leno

@jeatacake no idea, I'm guessing yellow😕 Paeonia delavayi var. delavayi f. lutea. I keep finding different colours with same name on google so we'll just have to wait & see. I'll plant in the ground in spring if he survives winter, keeping a close eye on this one.😊

Sounds promising 👍 How did you come by it? I acquired a white one in Holland in April which is still in its pot. Will plant it out in spring & hope for its first flowers. I have a couple of others, but they are (so far) a bit reluctant to flower!

@jeatacake you'll have to post a pic. I got 3 sent across from Ireland & kept 1, the other 2 went to the Tibetan monastery where I know they'll be in great hands. Ive got my one in the plastic greenhouse but it seems to be doing ok, I'll just keep an eye on them, I've got a feeling more snow is on the way ⛄❄

We may even get snow here tonight/tomorrow. Peonies are as tough as old boots though, so mine should all be fine outside. There is a Thai Buddhist monastery/temple near where I am but U'm not so sure the monks there are well versed in peony care. If (& that's a big if) any of mine do flower next spring, you'll see it on here first 👍

Keep us posted👍A lot of volunteers help with the gardens, next project is to grow a new wild wood on a stretch of wasteland. I'm sure they're having a gardening week to get the trees planted in spring. Volunteers always welcome!😂
