Welcome to GT hope you enjoy your journey with us all.You can combat clay issues #amendthesoil add leaves from fall and winter rakings to the top of soil in winter come spring before you plant stir it in. Also can add soil,compost and mulching to it as well again stir it all in. Will make it healthier and not hard and it will hold water more. Around certain plants that like more of an acidic soil place pinestraw and as it breaks down mix it up in soil/clay add more to top it off etc
