It's listed as a weed in my council area in Melbourne too! Pity we didn't realise when we planted one a few years back. We do love it though. Such a pretty tree...

@pixierose it’s an Australian native that is indigenous to a particular area near Cootamundra in New South Wales. It’s a very attractive plant when in full bloom! BUT outside it’s natural area it outcompetes other native plants...
