They sure do Kerry!! It's this whacky weather we have here. Just makes it that much more exciting though!

@jmlincoln it’s always exciting waiting on something to flower, especially when you grew it from seed 😁 do you have extremes of weather where you are?

Pee??!! Hahaha no not pee. I work in a hospital and their fragrance is far from urine! People don't know how to appreciate things. That is funny though! 😂😂

Kerry, it's unpredictable and inconsistent weather more than anything. The same day can be 50 degrees and 80 degrees. We are the Evergreen state! Lots of rain and overcast days, cooler temperatures throughout the year. We were fortunate to have warm days in Mar/Apr but then went back to cool days and rain. Summer just showed up toward the middle of July. You just kind of go with it! lol

A nice girl band? 😁 Seriously, they're perfect 👌 I got fed up with the encyclopedia too & have given up trying to link my plant photos together. I now have 2 separate lists! 🤪

@jeatacake 🤣🤣🤣 I had to think twice what you meant 😂 thank you 😁 something extra special about the ones you grow yourself isn’t there 😛 it’s so frustrating 😡 I had dreams of all my plants having a proper encyclopedia link but I’ll be like you instead 😌

Sorry, lol! There is absolutely something very special about growing plants from seed, especially difficult ones. The encyclopedia often uses unfamiliar names for plants too, (in the UK anyway), which makes them hard to find! 😒

1w

kez001uk

@jeatacake I don’t think I’ve managed any difficult ones yet but there’s always next year 😛 I’ll be a Jeffette yet! It’s frustrating but least we can log them on here and keep a note of variety or whatever else. Can’t beat it really 🙃

A Jeffette, lol! I'll take that as a compliment thanks Kerry! 😁 Just wait until you're fully in action with your heated propogator & vermiculite. You'll be leaving me standing next spring. Yes & it does keep a permanent record of all the photos we post, like a giant cloud storage system! 👍

The good thing about the drought was that there were hardly any around. Since it's been raining more, they've devastated the ones I had in the ground and now they've moved onto the ones in pots!

@bluefox23 true, the heat did keep them away. Just a shame it didn’t stop them for good!!!

Awww so pretty! I I sowed some dwarf marigolds but they either didn't germinate or I thinned them out by accident 😅 The foliage has lovely scent 😍

@ublaszko they’ve done so well in the difficult weather we’ve had. I’ll definitely grow them again. Ooops 😂 thinned them out completely 🤣 dwarf ones sound really cute though! You like the smell of marigolds?

2w

ublaszko

I love the dwarf ones. They have smaller flowers but they look so dainty. And they have a lemony or herby smell. I don't remember now. Do these normal ones have a scent?

2w
comment
kez001uk

@ublaszko I’ll have to look out for dwarf ones as some of these have got far too tall! The ones I have absolutely stink! I don’t know if they all smell as bad but not a fan of these ones 😂😂😷

2w
comment
ublaszko

Just Googled it but it doesn't say what they smell of. What kind of smell is it? Apparently, not all French ones pong. 😆😂 The dwarf ones, signet marigolds have a lemony fragrance from foliage and it's very pleasant. It's a bit like lemon thyme.

@ublaszko the only thing I can liken it to is the smell when cats mark their territory 😂 definitely not lemony or thyme or both 🤣 not to my nose anyway

@kez001uk That’s the color of Marigolds I think are so great. I’m fortunate enough to have good ones this year from last year’s seeds I’ve save. They got super bushy in the cold wet year I’m having. I Just posted a picture the other day of one. Thanks for sharing this photo.

@tkept I loved your marigolds the other day, they’re a beautiful colour! The darker orange/red in them is so much more appealing than the bright orange. And that you grew them from your own seeds is even better! Now I know I can save my seeds I’ll try doing the same. I grew these from seed but have yet to collect seed from any plants I have 😟 I think I deadhead too much 😂😂😂

@kez001uk In the fall I leave a few to dry and go to seed on he plant. Then pick the whole bud off. Marigolds are real easy to save. A fun plant to start seed saving and germinating as they are so easy. Good luck with it. 🍀🍀🍀

2w

@bluefox23 Nothing to it. Leave a few flowers on plant to dry then pinch off the whole dry flower. Tare it apart. The seeds are quill looking on marigold. Save the quill looking seed. Dry them good on a piece of paper, coffee filer or what ever. After a week or so just put them in a paper envelope and seal till spring. That’s what I do anyway and it works. Also go to YouTube or Google it. Tom

@bluefox23 To me it’s as much fun as growing stuff. The anticipation. Plus it’s free. I save everything. This year all my garden , peppers, tomato, squashes, tomatillos, cucumbers and flowers cost nothing. Hybrid seed from tomatoes and peppers don’t work. Make sure you save heirloom varieties. There are lots of folks on here to help teach you and most are willing to share or trade seeds for fun. YouTube is a valuable tool to me also. Tom
