Just bought a new home in Western PA with tons flowering shrubs and flowers to identify. Any help with ID and care is appreciated! 🌺🌞

Help me identify this plant #plantid another new flower I found around the house today. It's currently behind the irises. I'd like to transplant it to make it more visible. #columbine #aquilegia #plantid-aquilegia #purpleflowers

Hi Jessie is an Aquilegia plant. Also known as a Columbine, move it in the autumn 🍂👍

Thank you! I apparently have 2 varieties of columbines. I attempted to distinguish the two, but got too much contradictory info. I'll try again later.

They should #selfseed for you as well. Or gather the seeds and spread where you'd like them.

@brightcolours do you happen to know what type of columbine this is so I can research more on gathering the seeds? We have to fix a drainage problem in this area and won't be able to let them self seed.

Can't help with variety. Perhaps @lovestogarden can. But gathering #aquilegia seeds is same method no matter what variety.

Oh, so sorry I do know. I have never grown them. I am amazed how amazing they are however. @KariSamuel and @columbiariver aren't you growing them?

@columbiariver thank you for the reminder. I found it. I thought I had looked before but must have gone through too quickly.

I have columbine, but not this beauty! I would even take the flowers off, in hopes that some seeds would still survive! Are there any baby plants coming up around it?

@KariSamuel I'm not sure if there are any babies coming up. These were unfortunately planted very close to "overpopulated" irises. They might even be mixed in with them and just falling. I'll look for babies when I cut the iris leaves back.
