No regular pruning is required with abelias although they can be trimmed to shape after flowering. Old and thin growth of evergreen species should also be removed after flowering, For deciduous species this should be done in February.

It did have a scent, but not as strong as the jasmine. You had to have the flower right under your nose to tell. Lol. @cyndi

@cyndi I just read I need to cut back the old canes. It'll be interesting to see what happens next year. I kept pruning it at the wrong time and taking all the future flowers off. 😞
