Yes, it grows well in the shade. Bit slow to get going, mine did pretty much nothing the first couple of years but now it's growing a lot faster. It has tons of white flowers so really brightens up dull spots in the garden.

Does it hold itself @digforsanity , or does it need support?

@richard.spicer.7906 it's got aerial roots so it doesn't need a trellis, just a temporary stake until it's sorted itself out.
