My propagated baby #rose has decided now’s the time to produce its first flower 🙈😆

Whoops, not the best timing 🤔🤔

@pelly nope, but at least it’s small enough that it can fit in my vegtrug with the greenhouse cover for protection 😁or perhaps I should be ruthless and chop the flower off 😱

Oh no 😥😥

Love the red-tinged shoots on this rose, planted for our old cat who passed away. I had no idea I had to train it horizontally until last year, so this is its first year of shooting properly and I'm looking forward to the flowers ☺️ #rose #newgrowth #spring #foliage

Pretty foliage 🍃

I'm hoping that one day this section of hedge will be full of rose blooms. I only this year found out how to train them properly, so hopefully next year will be a better show. Not bad for year 3 though :)

Looks great @atomica

I can't get enough of this #rose - it was planted for our cat who passed away two years ago. It smells divine; it's a lovely way to remember him. :) #flower #yellow #fragrant

Is this a sucker? It looks the same as the rest of the rose but it grew really fast and from below ground. #advice pleeeeease! #rose #help

Are the leaves on this shoot a different colour? If the picture on the right (the brown stub) is of the grafted area

Then I would say yes this is a sucker as it is coming from the root stock not the grafted plant. Have the roots been recently disturbed or damaged as this can cause suckers. I'd dig out the soil and cut it back to were it's starting from. I'm not sure of any way of stopping this.

Also 7 sets of leaves I think roses bushes typically have 5 is this different from the rest of the plant?

@Hellebore thanks so much for your replies :) the reason I was so confused is the leaves are the same colour as the new growth on the rose and are the same shape. The thorns look the same, and there are 7 leaves on some of the stems on the rose! So that really doesn't help lol. The roots haven't been disturbed that I know of, but it was mulched generously with manure.

No worries 😄 possibly just a new quick growing shoot thanks to the mulching 😃 you'll know for sure if it bares any flowers and they are different 😂

@Hellebore ok I'll leave it be for now then! Thanks again :) :)
