Hippeastrum 'Shangalang'. So dark, she is nearly black. From local specialist grower. 4th of my Hippies to bloom. #hippeastrum #hippeastrum-shangalang

Hippeastrum 'Shang-a-lang'. Deepest dark red. Probably the last to bloom. Not such a good show this year as the bulbs were dug up and replanted last year. A couple left in a cooler, shaded area have not bloomed so they will be moved to a sunnier spot. Now the others are settled in, they will most likely put on a better display next year. Hardy tropical and eye catching when they bloom en masse. #hippeastrum #hippeastrum-shangalang

Hippeastrum 'Shangalang'. 3rd flower to bloom. A bit too much sunshine in this photo has lightened the colour. True colour is deep, dark, burgundy red. So easy to grow these carefree beauties in the subtropics. Plant and forget. They will look after themselves, needing very little water and multiplying each year for an impressive, increased display. #hippeastrum #hippeastrum-shangalang
