Happy St George's Day to my English GardenTags friends. This is the only red rose I have and the frost nipped it last year before I saw the full flower 🙂

Morning Suzy, it's very pretty. ❤❤❤

I'm looking forward to seeing it this year as I bought it reduced last Autumn, so it had been chopped right back. The only thing is there are two main thick stems about 30cm high and then the new growth is shooting out of the top. Looks a bit odd. It's a good one for shade apparently 🤞🏼@pelly

@Keely the fact that it even attempted to flower at the end of autumn, after a severe haircut, makes me think it'll be just dandy.

Thank you Suzy 😘 so often forgotten! And you'll find your lovely rose will start sprouting and shooting up everywhere! I think they're such robust plants 👍🏼🌹

You might not believe this but St Andrew's day largely goes unnoticed up here too 🤷‍♀️ @rachelbrooks They definitely are robust and I'm pretty sure this one was worth the whole three pounds I paid for it 😉 @rachelbrooks

Will I get a flower before the frosts?

@clustyroen it had been thoroughly chopped back when I bought it. It would be nice to see a flower before it goes for its winter snooze.

Could flower well into November if the sun shines 😆

@katgreen Seems to be the way of it that summer is a washout here but Autumn is beautiful, so there's every chance.

I'm now on my 3rd plant in a year and a half in a problem spot in the garden. My Camellia died and I've had to move the Honeysuckle to the front garden because of powdery mildew. Apparently this Rose tolerates shade. Only time will tell 😕

If this fails try hydrangea seemani (slow growing) or hydrangea petiolaris both tolerate deep shade if this is the problem @suzyw good luck with the 🌹

Thanks @carolgs 👍🏻👍🏻 'open shade' is maybe the best way to describe it. If this doesn't work out then I'll go with the Hydrangea - much appreciated.
