Back at it again! I’m trying once again with this plant. Haven’t had the best of luck with it. 🌿#succulent #replacement #rainbowbush #portulacaria-afra-variegata #variegated-elephant-bush #houseplant #indoor #indoorplant #succulentsunday

Good luck. I try a plant 3 times then I give up. I found my plant got leggy and it benefitted from being cut back. Yours is off to a great start

@janetandjim Thanks for the tip. This will be my third attempt with this plant. I think I’ve learned a lot from the previous two plants.

Placing a date stamp on this #portulacaria-afra. It’s current state is still healthy and I’m aiming to give it the right care so it can flourish. I’m trying very hard to learn and understand the needs of this #portulaca-afra. This is an image of my second plant after killing the first 😕 It’s no longer this full and lush. However, I’m confident I will help this plant thrive with tips and suggestion from #GTagers and online research. 🌿 #succulent #replacement #rainbowbush #portulacaria-afra-variegata #variegated-elephant-bush #houseplant #indoor #indoorplant

I have mine outside in the sunshine. I also put it in a clay pot. @susanar I will find my picture of it

Thanks @cyndi ! I’ve heard to thru before and read it again to jog my memory. I think my main problem is not having a consistent watering schedule for this succulent. It’s so sensitive to water and definitely more finicky than most succulents. I’m noting (mentally) observation and sign for when to water.

@alysha I’m not sure if I’ll be putting it outside. It’s still cold (temperatures are slowly rising) where I live at the moment. I have it facing a south window. Get enough sunlight during the day.

Pick a day 1 time a week check soil on all succulents you have.. if dry then water. They do not need a lot just a small amount.. Just keep an eye on plants behavior. These need bright indirect light. Make sure to read link see what the best pots are for them so.e work better than others. I water my succys 1 time a week then all other plants a day after them. So less confusion on how much water or ooops did i over water.. Lol..

Oh ok. Mine love the sun. And I left them out all winter. Only when we had our freeze warnings would I cover them. Turns out they are pretty hardy. I water once a week right now. But when summer hits it’s 3 times a week. And yes, the pink is from the sunshine. @susanar 😊 I ended up having a couple die first before I finally got the kinks worked out. Good luck to you 💜💜

So not every plant thrives in my care. This is the honest truth and it’s sad to admit 😕 This elephant bush is not looking bushy and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Does it need more watering or less watering? It’s drying and shriveling up from the top. 🌿#help #elephant-bush #nothappy #indoor-plants #indoor-garden #succulent

@KelsiBriana This plant has been losing lots of leaves and branches since I got it. My home has been dry due to heating and can be chilly at times. I’ve placed this plant in front of a window (southern/west) and it receives direct sun. A lot of my plants have been doing well in front of this window.

@susanar I feel the same way! I’m on my second plant of this type after the first shriveled up and died. Now I keep mine under a grow light indoors and water it with diluted fertilizer and I water it frequently. Some days I’ll drench it and some times just a little water. I’d say I water it twice a week.

Omg the same thing happened to mine first it lost all its leaves and still looked healthy then now it's shriveling . I cut it way back hoping it would help and stimulate growth. Not yet

I think it might be overwatered 🤔

@KelsiBriana @ecoami @heatherdirtyhands @plantobsessions Thanks for your input. I thought I was overwatering this plant too. I stopped watering and began to notice shriveling this week. I’ve looked at the root system and it’s look healthy and strong. No sign of root rot (yet). My local nursery has this plant in stock and I’m debating on buying a new one and continue to nurse my plant backs to health (if possible). I will use @ecoami advice on using diluted fertilize when watering.

I am in complete agreement with @plantobsessions. This plant easily stores too much water. It should only be watered when other soil is dry, and then let it go a bit longer. It sounds terrible, but remember it holds the water in every part of it. The shriveled leaves make you want to water it more, but beware. @KelsiBriana

Instantly became attracted to the leave variegation and bonsai tree appearance! I knew this #rainbow-bush had to be part of my plant collection. #portulacaria-afra #portulacaria-afra-variegata #variegated-elephant-bush #portulacaria-afra-tricolor
