This is a photo of my Opuntia with its dark green paddles, blackish spots and no spines that I purchased back in September. @beatnikcrab @txgardener #lasvegas #cactus-id #cactus-id-help #opuntia-id #opuntia #sunlovindesertgarden
Hahaha, I was just outside cleaning the pool and my eyes fell on that same cactus, and I thought it matched your description as well. I bought the same one a few months ago. It came unidentified. I found a likely ID at the time, but now I can't recall it. Let me see if I can find it again..
Ugh, I can't figure it out. If I ever did find the ID then it's long gone, but now I'm thinking I never found it and made the whole thing up. I'd thought that the felty texture would be a defining feature in finding the ID, but it doesn't seem to be. Something about it puts me in mind of a Consolea rubescens, but I have one of those as well and it's definitely not the same thing. I give up for now, but I'll let you know if I ever figure it out. 😓 #IDhelp #cactusID
Ok Thanks for the try. I think I got this at Lowe’s in Vegas. It was the only one on the bottom rack hiding way in the back. I thought maybe that’s why it was darker and no spines maybe it was deprived of light. So I planted it in the ground, and the top paddle got sunburned facing straight on in the sun. But the color didn’t change much. I guess I’ll have to wait for a flower to get more clues. 🤔🌞
@txgardener Well those were definitely spineless! Rather pretty light green. I don’t think it’s a match, but it was interesting to read about them. I’m not sure if I’m ready to eat a cactus pad though. Thanks!😊
@txgardener def different! The pads on this are like 1/4 the size of ellisiana, plus these have a felty coating on them which ellisiana doesn't. @sunlovin cactus is definitely different to eat.. My grandma used to put it in tamales, and I've had it in tacos a few times. Hmm, okra kind of reminds me of it (slime + flavor), but the texture is a bit like a slightly wilted cucumber..? 🤔🤷🏻♀️ Idk, it's kind of weird but I like it. It's worth trying!
