This is the only dahlia that I started indoors that has sprouted (the others are starting root but it's taking ages!!). I've put this out in the greenhouse - when can I plant it out in the border? #dahlia #help #advice #guidance #beginnergardener

@shivydevon depends really on the weather in your area, are you still getting frost?

@ben1984 I'm in Plymouth Devon - haven't been any frosts for a few weeks and seems to be warming up over the next week. Thanks

@shivydevon if the area is sheltered you can chance it I have planted majority of mine for few weeks now. If you want to chance it just be sure to have a fleece in hand just in case

Thanks @ben1984 - I have planted a couple straight out in the border last weekend but nothing yet. How long should I wait for shoots without watering? I planted them in early February and only one has grown shoots.

@shivydevon depends how deep you planted them in my experience I get better and stronger growth if I wait for shoots to come out before watering my longest wait was between 3 to 4 weeks

@shivydevon when planting you're greenhouse grown dahlia, not sure whether you know but harden it off first i.e. Put it outside during day and bring in at night for a week or so, so it doesn't get too much of a shock as its been used to a diff temp inside

I planted mine about three weeks Argo and still nothing! They are under cover due to frost but I was just thinking the same, they are taking ages! Good luck with them though!
