I have mostly houseplants and cacti. I'm a beginner doing constant research, trying not to kill anything. USDA zones 8a and 8b.

I got this Calathea today at Walmart. They were about to throw it away! I pruned many burnt leaves from it. It had been in direct sun. But I see new leaves to be unfurled! Any calathea tips are appreciated. I've never had one. #calathea #calathea-ornata #pinstripecalathea #houseplant

😻 Gorgeous! They love humidity very very much. Indirect to low light. I have most of mine in the bathroom and kitchen. (Northern and Eastern exposure) The kitchen ones have a humidifier and they’re loving life. Good luck with yours! 💕

@plantobsessions Thank you for the tips and the compliment! I already misted it since I got home and it is sitting by a pebble tray. Hopefully misting often will be good enough for her. 😄

they aren't too fond of tap water so distilled water/water left out over night for chemicals to evaporate is what works best for them! also mist her leaves 2x week with that water, keep moist but not swamped. I know the earlier person said low light but I find mine loves the windowsill when the sun isn't directly shining on it. mine likes to move very actively in the direction of bright indirect light throughout the day!! 💕

@ofmiceormen Thank you! I had heard they are picky about water. Do you think spring water is good enough? That's what I give my peace lily because she hates chemicals too. I can surely leave some tap water out overnight if she wouldn't like the spring water though. 😊💚

I purchased one yesterday. Should I repot it now or wait awhile? It is beautiful.

@aj50 I honestly don't know. I repotted mine when I got it home, and it hasn't throw a tantrum or anything. I also don't know if I should wait to water it or not now that I repotted. Congrats on getting one! They are beautiful. I hope we can both keep them alive. 😄

Thanks I wait a few days to repot. Don't want to shock it.

@savannahssucculentgarden I'm not sure about spring water, as long as it doesn't have chems like flouride or chlorine it should be fine!!
