The other bulb nursery bed is going very well too. It seems my tulips I lifted last year and baked in the polytunnel have really flowered wonderfully this year, and some that I bought over five years ago and also coming back well. Is that the secret - bake them and no water over summer, then drench them in autumn and winter? 🤷🏼‍♂️ I wish I hadn’t thrown my ballerina ones away now as they could have looked good too #tulipa #tulip

So when you say lift them, just dig them up shake off the soil and leave somewhere warm and dry ? @richard.spicer.7906 🙄

Certainly worth an experiment Jane 👍🏼 I hadn’t intentionally done it as I was just lifting them to move them, but then time took over and I didn’t get round to it. So they stayed on the bench in the tunnel. Planted them in December and not even that deep either @pelly

Yep - that’s what happened. I waited until the flower finished, then lifted them, shook all the soil off and layer them on the shelves in the polytunnel for about 4 weeks. Once the foliage had died off I then cleaned them and out them in paper bags with labels, planning to replant them as soon as possible but there they stayed till December 🤭 - average day temp over summer in tunnel was about 25-30 degrees @debs69

Thanks Rich , I don’t have a polytunnel but I do have a small glass growhouse which gets very warm so will give this a try 👍 @richard.spicer.7906 🐰

Found these in the back of the garden after clearing quite a bit of bramble. They were in the garden already when I moved here, so not sure which hybrid this is but I recall they are red from previous years (maybe with a touch of yellow) #tulip #tulipa
