This is #charleysplant Charley was my Nana’s cousin. He was killed in action in the Somme a couple of months before my Nana was born. She was named after him - Charl - and my mum, eldest sister, niece and great niece also have the same name. My Nana and Great Gran always wanted to find him but never did and so I researched him, found him, and went to visit him on the centenary of his death. This is the plant growing on his grave of which I (very carefully) removed a part...

...and it now grows in a pot on my patio. I always worry I’m going to kill it 😱 but so far it’s survived and is flowering away happily at the moment #remembrance this isn’t meant as a sad post...just wanted to share him with you all 😊

That's so so lovely, fantastic way to remember him. My great grandfather narrowly survived Somme thanks to his tin helmet. Isn't it mad to think how many generations that aren't here because of the fallen soldiers? 😢

The two most emotional weekends of my life doll! 🙈 I’ve never cried so much, happy tears as well though. Lots of happy tears! 😘 @lexijane

I was over the moon to find him Suz, and it became a real bee in my bonnet about visiting him on the actual centenary of his death (not that I’m OCD or anything! 🙈) It was a wonderful feeling visiting him and leaving parts of our home town with him as well 😘 @jadojado29

Thanks Lily 😘 wow! Someone was watching over him weren’t they?! It’s unreal...I visited Thiepval Memorial and it’s incomprehensible...just rows and rows of names. Makes no sense. But how fortunate we are for their sacrifice 🖤 @waterlily

😥what a beautiful story. It is so emotional when you find the grave. Hubby has a 1st-cousin-twice-removed buried in France, we've been to visit him a few times. Absolutely heartbreaking. But what a lovely connection having the plant in your garden❤

It’s surreal when you visit isn’t it? Such a peaceful, rural place... it doesn’t seem possible what happened there. I’m glad you visit. I found it a really humbling, but at the same time uplifting experience 😘 @cee

#plantid hi all can anyone tell me what this is please? Low growing mound and when I took a couple of cuttings there is no real stem to each piece - quite stringy! Am wondering how best to establish it 😊

Rachel could it be a spindle tree? https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/6977/i-Euonymus-europaeus-i/Details can take 10 - 20 year full grow.

Steve do you mean this pic? Or the one I posted last week? 🤔 don't think this one is a spindle tree, but agree the other one is! 👍🏼 @lamaisonbleueoleron

Yes not the best pic! 😬 have posted another of a little piece that I took Steve @lamaisonbleueoleron think it must be a small plant as it is planted in front of a grave!(don't judge me! Wanted to bring a bit back with me for sentimental purposes! 😬😉)

I thought Arenaria @rachelbrooks, but the leaf tips don't look pointed enough in your photo. Kind of matches your description...?

Thanks Graham - had a look online and I'm not sure...🤔😬 also looks like some types of Saxifrage and a Lewisia (although they don't appear to form mounds like this) think I will try and plant with the little tendrils just under a layer of gritty soil and hope they grow! 👍🏼😁 @gardengimp

Yeah @rachelbrooks, that sounds a good plan. With a bit of luck and following wind it'll root and we'll see if it pops out a flower, giving away its identity :)
