Happy #wildlifewednesday everyone. I don’t know what this little fella was on my canna leaf the other day but he was there for ages and didn’t appear to be doing any harm #canna-leaf 23/10/19

@pelly and @dan5584 even British grown can have problems but don't under any circumstances buy tubers that have been imported from Holland as they will be virused. Know the signs of the virus and what to look for but at this time of year, you should be able to buy reduced price cannas as garden centres clear their summer stock

Oh now I am worried bought some tubers in spring from Harrogate which are now in flower. I have never grown them before, hope they do not have any viruses.

Yayyyyyyy I'm so pleased for you 😍 I was reading late last night, that you're not to worry about the first couple of sets of leaves as they will get damaged by heat, light, damp and anything else you can think of so thought I'd ask you and let you know what I'd read

@vec I've been hoping that I didn't have to post this, but all of my seedlings appear to have rust. I've read up on the internet to see if there is anything I can do but it looks like I've lost them. I'm gutted.

Gutted for you, Worst case Jane, I'll send you some of my seedlings. I've got plenty on the go 😉 Was your greenhouse heated? They shouldn't go below 16° and are you able to rub off the rust or is it a discolouration

I've just read that thanks Julie, I'm pretty sure that I've done everything right, it started before I put them in the greenhouse, actually that's why I moved them out, to see if that would help. No it doesn't rub off, I've tried cutting off the affected leaves but that's not working either. I think they've got to go. I'm so upset, they were doing so well. Thanks so much for your lovely offer of the seedlings, that's so kind of you @vec 😪😘

@jacaranda these are mine now, sown 6/10/18. The first one germinated very quickly at just over a week, the others have followed at roughly one a week. There is a smaller one that you can’t see on this photo. I’m still waiting to see if the other four appear.

Hi Jane. Trawled back through your posts to find this one as I remembered you sowed some canna seeds. How did you nick them? I tried doing mine today but it was impossible so I gave up! Hi Barbara, I can tell you it wasn't easy.... I held the seed between my index finger and thumb and scraped away with a sharp knife until I could see white showing. The seeds kept shooting off all over and my hands really hurt afterwards but it was worth it, a couple of them are now over three inches tall @jacaranda Good luck 👍👍
