My first ever coleus flower 😁

Lovely. I've never grown them, but my dad always took the flowers off as they sapped the plant? Don't know if that's right🙂

I've no idea @joanboston. It's the first time I've grown them. If I'm honest I didn't even realise they flowered 😂😂. It was a nice surprise when I saw it. It doesn't look as if it would damage the plant though 🤔

The encyclopaedia says remove flowers?

If you ping the bloom gives the plant more energy to get bigger. Near the end of the "growing season" you can let them bloom to collect seeds.

The plants deteriorate quite quickly if left to flower 😞

Aww what a shame you have to take it off, although the foliage is so gorgeous it makes up for it 💚💜💚

Mine got so big it wouldn't fit in those pots. Kept taking the flower heads off so could keep growing and I even made a few more from smaller "babies" growth from under larger leaves. ✌💕

Aawww. Lovely and cute. I've had some real success with plug plants Lexi, better than sewing seeds. Not sure I'm cut out for seed sewing, although I won't give up yet 😊👍

@Keely that's exactly what I'm doing. Having them in with the heucheras 👌🏼. Think they look great together. I've got a euonymus that will go nicely too 👌🏼

Haha! @susanhumphrey333 I know the feeling although I have sown some cosmos & dahlias which seem to be doing ok 👌🏼🤞🏼

2w

susanhumphrey333

The Cosmos were the worst. I'm going to try some more though. My best have been delphiniums (which I thought could be difficult) and poppies which have done so well that it's been difficult to thin them. Oh and some sweet peas which aren't that big but look strong and healthy 👍😊

Aaww. That's kind, but I've sewn lots that haven't done so well. I usually end up with something to show, so I suppose two or three plants is better than nothing 👍

Think it's great to say you grew it from scratch & nurtured it even if the success rate isn't good 😂😂
