Impressive Leon, can just about see the top..

@solly1961 thanks Mark,it survived the strong winds this time, lost a few smaller flowering stems last time. It must be about 12ft or more now.....just hoping to find some seedlings later! 🌱

12ft, wow, even more impressed especially surving the last few days.

@solly1961 I’ve got it tied in a couple of places lower down, but the main stem is pretty strong. 🤞🏻

Do you still have this Leon? I’ve just been given one 🤨

@sieveheadsarah no I haven’t Sarah, had it for three years & it flowered for the first time last year……was expecting to find seedlings dotted around but nothing. I loved it,very spectacular! But it did take up a lot of room. 🤔

I’ve just been out in the back garden trying to work out where I’ll plant it 🤔🤨🤣 I’m thinking it may have to go in the front garden 🤔 oh what have I let myself in for?!?

@sieveheadsarah you’ve let yourself in for a very worthwhile experience,I’m sure you’ll love it once it flowers! 😁👍🏻

Do you think it would be happy in a large pot Leon or best in the ground?? @Leonplantaddict

@sieveheadsarah if it’s the same as the one I had, definitely needs to go in the ground, far too big for a pot Sarah. 🤔

Oh ok Leon, I’d better find a space for it, do I need to cover it for the winter?

Well it’s grown tall & tatty,about 6ft,but no flowers!! #echium 😕🤔

Hi Leon, I grew one a few years ago. It took 4 years to flower and spent three winters wrapped in fleece, it was very stressful! I said it wouldn't grow them again but have found a self seeded one this summer so here I go again!

@euphorbia Hi Jennifer, thanks for letting me know, wow four years! I thought it would flower in its second year,oh well I still look forward to it flowering even if it gets quite tatty! 😊👍🏻

Doesn’t look much now but at least it’s in the ground at last! Looking forward to seeing the tall spire of flowers one day! #echium #anticipation 💚

2020 I reckon, but you'll have to protect it from severe frosts 👍

@jeatacake yes I reckoned on a couple of years, hoping I can get it through frosts, not too bad here usually. 👍🏻

I bought one a couple of years ago from Detling Garden show took a whole year to about 7 feet tall it’s meant to self seed like mad I never got another one..

Mahoosive
@thehardygardener it’s probably about 12-14’ tall, bottom half is a bit ugly but love the flowers & the constant sound of bees! 🐝
That's impressive, tall daisy's might hide the straggly bits
Wow!
