That's one of my favorites. That's a neoregelia bromeliad.

Depends on where you live. I live in the Midwest so they wouldn't last very long here. I've always kept mine in pots or in my lizard vivariums. I'll leave a link in another comment that talks about outdoor bromeliads.

I live in southeast Louisiana. The temp very rarely drops below freezing so I might be good. I'll do some research. Thanks for the link @foxxy 😊

I would keep him in a pot outside. They can be quite finicky about water and humidity levels. Your rainy seasons could hurt this plant. Even though they are tropical, they can not deal with soil that is too moist. Even in Southern Louisiana it gets below freezing sometimes. Usually you can spot these guys in pots in courtyards in NOLA for the afformentioned reasons. Read up on how to water these guys.
