Would recommend it as something to try 😉 @linfoster Unfortunately it's a very unglamorous gas meter cover, made of plastic, can't cover it because of access, not a flat surface. Will have to settle for a repaint. Not a project 😉

Not ignorance Sue 😊 the pads are the 'lumps' of foliage on the end of a branch. With conifers you individually wire each section of foliage on the branch ends, so that they fan out initially into a flat 'pad' which is what I've just done. These will now start to fill out and you pinch out new growing tips until the pad becomes dense. With Bonsai you look for flatter layered pads, same technique for cloud pruning just into balls..Sorry for the waffle 😉 @susanhumphrey333
