I was going to pull these up last week as they had been blown over and they looked a mess. However, they still had buds so I staked them and I’ve been rewarded with more flowers 🧡 #tithonia #tithonia-torch #grownfromseed #orange #autumncolour #dontcutback #annual 💚

That’s a beautiful photo Barbara 🧡🧡🧡

Hopefully going to grow these next year, well I’ve got the seeds, love the colour, great photo 🧡

That really does look amazing set against the background of dark green foliage #bestofoctober

And the butterflies and bees love them! 🥰

Thanks Jane. The flower was growing at a funny angle but I thought it looked quite quirky 😂 @pelly

@Auricula I hadn’t grown them before but I’ll definitely do them again next year. 👍

I’ll grow them again next year and put them in a similar position, Angela, as they definitely look good against the darker foliage 👍 @italydiva

On my list to grow next year 🧡

Here’s another #happinessis post, this time of the first #tithonia flower. I’ve never grown these before but if this beauty is an example of what the flowers are going to be like then I’ll definitely grow them again! #tithonia-torch #orange #annual #grownfromseed #mygardentoday 💚

I’m shocked that you’ve never grown tithonia before 😮 only bit of advice I’d give is to have something planted in front of it as bottom leaves tend to get a bit tatty 😉

I’ve never bothered much with annuals, Julie, but I’ve had success with cosmos and zinnias over the past couple of years so I thought I’d add Tithonia to the list this year! Thanks for the tip about the tatty leaves. I’ll keep my eye on them 👍😘 @vec

How about my other favourite annual of Ricinus . … I’ve got @jadojado29 hooked on them as well as tithonia 😂

I did try Ricinus a couple of years ago but without much success, Julie, but maybe I’ll have to try again 👍😘 @vec

Bottom heat above a radiator on a sunny windowsill works well for me. Don’t sow too early as they’re fast growers. I normally do mid To late April but even early may is plenty soon enough. I start them in clear half pint plastic glasses so I can see the roots growing and they can grow on a bit without having the roots disturbed.

Great tips, Julie! Thank you 😘 @vec
#happinessis finding a half packet of seeds that you’d forgotten you had! The new batch of #tithonia sown this morning will be guarded like the Crown Jewels!!! #seedsowing #greenhouse 💚
Hopefully not in the greenhouse unless you place salt around the tray that they’re sitting in 😉
🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
They’re in the greenhouse for now as it’s the sunniest place and I need them to germinate quickly but as soon as I see the tiniest bit of growth I’ll bring them indoors 👍 @vec
😆👍🏼
I’m so glad you found those seeds Barbara after the disappointment of what happened to the others 🤔 @jacaranda
