Our creative adventure began in 1999, a new house and a bare plot. We were part of the NGS family for 10 years. Now we’re sitting back and relaxing!

Not the best photo as I would’ve needed a ladder to get closer, but ‘Summer Wine’ isn’t fading away just yet! She’s almost merging with the #acer in the background but you can still see the one solitary flower plus some #rosehips on the left of the photo. #latebloomer #rose #rose-summerwine #climber #mygardentoday 💚

Is it my imagination or are the colours on ‘Summer Wine’ constantly changing? What’s yours like, Jane? @pelly #rose #climbingrose #rose-summerwine #mygardentoday

No it's not your imagination Barbara, mine is the same. When the first buds opened they were bright pink, after a couple of weeks they reverted to what I consider its proper colour, a peachy shade. It's just had a little rest and is coming back into flower again and the bud that is just opening is very bright coral colour. Do you think it's something to do with the bouts of rain and the very early hot weather we have been having recently? 🤔 I'll post a pic of the flower that is opening 😘

I’m sure it’s weather related, Jane, but it’s an interesting conundrum 😂😘 @pelly

Isn't it, it's like having two or three different roses in one 🌹😘 @jacaranda

It’s too windy to get a really good photo of ‘Summer Wine’ but this will do for now! How does the colour compare to yours, Jane? @pelly #rose #rose-summerwine #climber #pink 💕

Pretty much the same but mine seemed to be more of a peachy colour last year. I'm just wondering now as I remember that I moved it last year, maybe that affected it 🤔 Thanks for posting Barbara 😘

It’s possible that the different soils conditions from one area to the next, no matter how slight, have caused the change in colour, Jane. 🤔 It’s still a lovely rose, though 💕 @pelly 😘

It is and I've got used to it now, it was just a bit of a shock when it first opened and was so pink 💖😘

It looks as though it’s going to be raining all day here in West Sussex ☔️ so this is definitely the last of the ‘Summer Wine’ 😂 in #mygardentoday 23/09/2018 #rose #climbingrose #lastbloom

So lovely, I’ve had my last few blooms now, but I’ve done as you suggested and left them on to get the hips 😍😍

I won’t have many as I’ve only had a few flowers with it being new, but it’s more than doubled in size already. It should be beautiful next year 😍😍

Oh isn't that gorgeous, I'm looking for a climbing rose and this would fit the bill perfectly, does it have a long season Barbara? 💕🤔

jacaranda

Yes it does, Jane. I deadhead throughout the summer and then at the end of the season I leave the remaining flowers to form hips. These are left on for the winter as they look so attractive. 👍😘 @pelly

I saw this rose at Wisley , many years ago , and had great difficulty in finding a stockist .However since then have found it is one of the easiest roses to take cuttings from.It is a really one of the best roses - now climbing over the pergola and another spreading up a young silver birch.

I’ve never tried cuttings, Rosie, so thanks for the tip. I might give it a go! @rosiepetzold
