Well this is a surprise! Last year’s plant, growing in a very small pot, has survived the winter and it’s climbing and flowering!!! Shame about the unsightly background but at least it has something to cling to. #rhodochiton #purplebellvine #containergarden

I dodged the showers and nipped outside to see if I could find any #seedpods on the #rhodochiton flowers. Success!!! I will hunt for more tomorrow and bring them inside to dry off. When is the best time to sow the seeds, Jacqueline? @awomanonabike 🤔

To be honest Barbara I don’t know. When I sowed my own seeds the pods had formed spherical seed pods and I think it was mid-winter. I’ll see if I can find a photo...

From the few I've already managed to collect, the flowers had gone and I was left with a brown seed pod Barbara, I don't think that's ripe enough. Have a look at Jacqueline's @awomanonabike post showing hers 👍👍

Fabulous, Jacqueline. Once it gets going (and mine were slow this year) it’s non stop. I’m leaving mine in place, outside in the hanging basket, just to see how long it can survive when the cold weather hits. 🤞 it will still be going for a few more weeks @awomanonabike

Mine were quicker this year but only because I got them as plug plants rather than growing them from seed. No chance that they will survive outside up here, sadly 💦❄️😥❄️💦

Me too! I know they have a bit of the snigger factor but they grow so rampantly and flower their socks off. I love the two shades of purple too. They have looked wonderful with the nasturtiums but also with cream sweet peas 😍💜

What a great idea, I was looking at these today at the GC, but I've just had a thought, should they be selling them now if they're an annual? 🤔🤔

It’s classed as a perennial, Jane, but the advice is to treat it as an annual if you’re in an area where there are frosts and cold weather. If you keep it in the greenhouse over winter it might be alright but I’ve always treated it as an annual. This year’s plug plants from Sarah Raven took forever to get going due to the cold wet spring, so I don’t fancy my chances of getting these ones through the winter. 😢 @pelly

Hi Jennie. This photo was taken in the autumn. Once the frosts came the plants were killed off. I usually buy plug plants from Sarah Raven but I’ll sow my own seeds in March and see what happens. @jennielorraine

Hi Barbara. You need to sow the seeds now as they take a while to germinate. I usually start them in Jan but have only just got home so will do them tomorrow. One of my favourite plants. @jacaranda
