Our creative adventure began in 1999, a new house and a bare plot. We were part of the NGS family for 10 years. Now we’re sitting back and relaxing!

A bit more #wintercolour thanks to the berries on the #nandina ❤️ I’ve often wondered why the birds don’t eat these and apparently it’s because the berries contain small amounts of cyanide! 😳#liveandlearn #poisonous #redberries 💚

So pretty but with a deadly secret! Good the birds are all knowing Barbara! Is this bamboo the invasive kind? Just wondering if it can be grown in a container as a screen?

It’s not a bamboo in the true sense, Angela, and it isn’t at all invasive. I’m sure it would be fine in a pot, though. 👍😘 @italydiva

Ooh...that’s good to know Barbara. I’ve just looked back through your photos, it has a lot of all year round interest. I think I may have to consider looking into this as a future purchase! 😀 x

Ooooh yes, Sue, the shrub has white flowers in the summer and the berries follow in the autumn/winter. ❤️ @lilybee

Don't think I remember seeing flowers on mine either in the summer. It's a small one so maybe next year!

If you swipe left through the photos of mine, Sue, you’ll find a post from 2017 of the flowers. This is a mature shrub and I can’t remember when the flowers and berries first appeared so maybe you’ll have to wait until yours is a bit older 🤞 @lilybee

A few of the #nandina leaves have begun to take on unusual colouring. I have two other Nandinas and neither of them are doing this. Does anyone know why this is happening? Not that I’m complaining as I think it looks rather lovely 💚💛♥️ #foliagefriday #evergreen #evergreenshrubs #sacredbamboo #mygardentoday 12/07/2019

The rest of the plant looks very healthy, Jane, so I don’t think there’s anything to worry about 🤞 I’ll keep my eye on it, though, just so be on the safe side. @pelly

Thanks for all your good wishes 😘 I’m rarely ill so the last few days have been really tough. The diagnosis is either neuralgia or an inflamed jaw. I’m being treated for the latter at the moment as the treatment for neuralgia is pretty drastic.
