Now here’s a #wednesdaywonder for you. This was bought from #farmergracy as ‘Orange Queen’ but it obviously isn’t orange! I sent them a photo and asked for the correct identification and they’re stumped. They have no idea what variety it is. Any suggestions? #belamcanda #belamcanda-chinsensis #orange #maroon #newpurchase #plantid 💚
That’s inspired, Sarah!!! I’ve emailed Farmer Gracy with the information taken from the website you sent me so let’s see what their response is. 🤞😘 @sieveheadsarah
@sieveheadsarah A horticulturist at Farmer Gracy has replied to say “It is certainly a Belamcanda which is flowering darker than most, perhaps this one has cross-pollinated with another species or genus of plant.” She doesn’t know what it may have cross pollinated with but she thinks it’s very pretty! So the jury is still out. 🤷🏼♀️😘
They got back to you quickly Barbara, maybe collect seeds and see how they come out once grown, would be interesting to see, I grew some this year, but they’re still very small plants at the moment. I wonder what @treefrog44 @richard.spicer.7906 think of this flower 🤔🤨
@sieveheadsarah I've grown lots from seed but only get the orange color. It seems to be a plant that would hybridize easily. I would not be surprised to see different colors, especially if there are candylilies grown in the same area 😉 @jacaranda i would save pollen to self pollinate several flowers, save seeds and see what colors you get next year! 😉
