I’ve dotted quite a few of these through the L-shaped wall by the patio but this is the first one to flower. Let’s hope the others aren’t too far behind 🤞 #hesperantha #crimsonflaglily #latebloomer #septemberblooms #jacarandawallview 💚

How lovely, no sign of any flowers on mine yet but it's usually early October ❤❤❤

Are they always this late?

Yes, Sharon, they generally flower in late summer/early autumn, depending on the weather. @sharonhayden

Oh thanks @jacaranda

Still flowering! Once they get going they don’t know when to stop 💕 Such an invaluable plant for this time of year 💕 #kaffirlily #hesperantha #autumncolour #pink #raindrops #jacarandawallview #mygardentoday 💚

One of my favourites 💕💕💕

Hi Barbara/Jane - just to make you aware that we have recently amended the primary common name for all Hesperantha coccinea varieties in the database to 'Crimson Flag Lily'. The term Kaffir Lily - whilst still commonly used by gardeners in UK and North America - is an old outdated name for this plant. Do to its popularity, it will still be searchable in the encyclopaedia by the old name so that users can find it under this name but it will no longer be visible to users. @jacaranda @pelly

Thanks guys, I now have to remember yet another new name 😂. What I don't understand is where does Wilfred H Bryant come in to the equation with my Pink Princess one? 🤔 @gardentagsplantsteam

The change was made after discovering the offensive nature of the term in some parts of the world, particularly in Africa, and is in line with many horticultural and botanical groups (including the RHS). There are a number of websites documenting this point but you can see it also here for reference (under cultivation) - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hesperantha_coccinea @jacaranda @pelly

😉 good point Jane - 'Pink Princess' has been shown to be an alternative name used by some nurseries for an existing variety Wilfred H Bryant. The older name I’m afraid takes precedent under the official naming convention of plants, so it is deemed a synonym rather than its true name. So although it was sold to you as Pink Princess, it’s technically Wilfred H Bryant 👍🏼 Again, this point is validated on a number of websites (including RHS, see link below) @pelly

https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/303156/Hesperantha-coccinea-Wilfred-H-Bryant/Details

Thanks for both the links, the first one was really interesting and the second one makes me wonder if the nurseries just make these pretty names up to sell plants!! @gardentagsplantsteam

Thanks for the info @gardentagsplantsteam I have to admit that having spent many years living in Africa the name Kaffir Lily just didn’t sit right with me. Let’s hope I can continue to remember its official name from now on 🤣🤣

#autumnflowering These are bulking up nicely 💕 Out of the five small plants that were gifted to me a couple of years ago three are now in flower 💕 #kaffirlily #schizostylis #hesperantha #pink #plantgift #jacarandawallview #latesummercolour 💚

I love these, they're so beautiful 💕💕💕

Just beautiful 😍

Wonderful. I remember admiring these years and years ago and thinking they looked exotic but they’re pretty tough aren’t they. 💗

They’re great plants, Jacqueline. I’ve just bought the pale pink variety but no flowers on that one yet! Enjoy your day 😘 @awomanonabike

You too Barbara 😘

When I see the first flower on the #kaffirlily it’s a sure sign that autumn is just around the corner? Happy 1st September!!! #schizostylis #pink #jacarandawallview 💕💚💕

Love these, still waiting for mine to flower. Happy 1st September to you too 💕💕💕

I was given five baby plants a couple of years ago, Jane, and this one flowered for the first time last year but none of the others did. I’ve now noticed that another one looks as though it’s got a flower spike coming so I’m going to give them all a good feed and keep my fingers crossed!!! 💕 Have a great afternoon 😘 @pelly

Oh I hope they all flower for you, they can go on for ages. One of mine was still flowering at the end of January 💗 Enjoy your afternoon too 😘

I noticed mine started flowering yesterday. 🌸

Beautiful flower and a lovely colour 💕💕♥️♥️

You have to give her 10 out of 10 for perseverance! #schizostylis #kaffirlily #pink #mygardentoday

Definitely, Barbara 😍 20 out of 10 💓👏🏻💓

It came out, how lovely. I’ve posted one today that’s still flowering 💗💗💗

Amazing! This mild weather is helping I think

I saw yours, Jane! This mild weather is just crazy!!! @pelly

It makes you wonder what's coming Barbara 🤔😱

I hate to think, Jane, although we could do with a cold snap to kill off all the bugs and nasties 🐌🐌🐌 @pelly

Very true, I seem to be getting a lot of mini slugs at the moment and they’re so hard to find 🐌🐌

Eight days on since the last photo and she’s slowly unfurling 💕 At this rate she might just be fully in flower by Easter 😂 #worththewait #schizostylis #pink #mygardentoday

Worth the wait though lol

So impatient Barbara....tut tut tut 😆

A friend gave me five of these little plants in the spring but this is the only one to produce a flower so far.......but in December??? I can’t imagine that it will open fully, but you never know! #schizostylis #kaffirlily #latebloomer #mothernature #mygardentoday

Wow you wouldn’t believe it..

I actually saw them flowering through the winter round here last year. I think they do well if they're in a sheltered spot.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed, Urszula 🤞 @ublaszko 💕

Ooh let's hope it does. How strange it's taken all this time 💕💕
Still flowering in mid January! #crimsonflaglily #schizostylis #winterblooms #januaryflowers #mygardentoday 💚
They’re gonna go right through Barbara how weird would that be….
I’m keeping my fingers crossed, Elaine 🤞🤞🤞 @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
