Dahlia 'Black Touch'

It’s not a good idea to try to stake dahlias once they’re in flower! I was really careful but despite my best efforts two stems broke off. At least I can enjoy this lovely flower indoors now but I doubt if the buds on the other stem will open 😢 #dahlia #dahlia-blacktouch #jacarandacuttinggarden 💚

Not stupid at all, Charlotte, as they certainly look as though they should be fragrant but they aren’t 😢 I’m sure that somewhere down the line a breeder will find a way to produce a scented one, though!!! @charlotte 😘

Now this is strange!! My two ‘Black Touch’ #dahlias overwintered from last year have produced two very different flowers this year. Any suggestions as to why? Last year’s photos show the same shape flower as this year’s, bottom right, but I can’t find any photos of a flower that looks like the one top right. #dahlia-blacktouch #jacarandacuttinggarden #mygardentoday #itsamystery

I’ve looked through the GTAGS library of dahlia photos and two have caught my eye as looking similar to mine. Jackie @jmlincoln and Emilia @emilamag are yours ‘Black Touch’ and do they look like mine? Thanks in advance 👍👍

Hi @jacaranda This is my first year with my black touch and it matches your bottom two photos but I have yet to have a 'cactus' like bloom that you have. Interesting that it would do that 🤔 Have you found any answers yet?

Hi @jacaranda, unfortunately I bought my dahlia 3 years ago and I don’t know its variety. It looks similar in colour to yours but mine has round shaped petals and it never changed it. I don’t know why your dahlia would change shape of flowers.
