Our creative adventure began in 1999, a new house and a bare plot. We took a break from NGS openings in 2021/22 but we’ll be back in 2023!

Two of my container grown #cannas were blown over in the wind yesterday but there was no lasting damage and these pretty #seedheads remained intact. They’re like little green pom-poms!! #containergarden #green #stormfrancis #mygardentoday 💚

Quandary time then, cut them off and hope for the energy to be diverted into new flower buds or leave them to ripen and go brown in the hope of growing from seed if they're not a sterile variety

At the moment they’re so pretty that I’m leaving them on. I tried collecting and sowing the seed last year but it was a failure so I don’t think I’ll bother again! @vec 😘

Earlier this year a friend gave me two mimosa plants and one had a couple of pieces of canna root in with it. I’ve never grown cannas before so I put the pieces in an old flower pot added compost and left the pot in an out of the way corner. When the leaves began to show I moved the pot to a sunny place and hey presto! A flower!!! #canna #tropical #welcomegift #surprise #mygardentoday 02/08/2018

Yay! Should look great Barbara - little tip - don’t deadhead it once the blooms fade. As the flowering stem keeps growing on through the old flowers. If anything, you can just tidy up the faded flowers by pulling the older wilted petals off 😊👍🏼 just don’t chop the stem

Thanks Rich! I don’t know a thing about cannas so this will be a learning curve. At least I know where to come for advice now 😂👍😘 @richard.spicer.7906
