According to an item from the Hampton Court Garden Festival this gorgeous shrub is under threat. I am so happy to be doing my bit, albeit inadvertently, by growing both the claret coloured one and the white one. Although the flowers look very exotic the shrub is easy to grow and trouble free. Every garden should have one!!! #calycanthus #deciduous #underthreat #mygardentoday 💚
@jacaranda I love this I had one in my last house, will post a picture and tag you, would like one in my new home but not come across one yet, I’ll see if my plant sale lady can get me one again. Lovely 🌺🌺🌺
I keep telling my husband that I can't have any more plants. I have enough to play with forever. Then you post this one. I had this at our first home...ages ago, Barbara. Just loved it. I guess I do have room for one more. Xo
Here you are, Justin. Not a great shot as it’s too big and doesn’t really stand out in the photo against the green background, but you can get a rough idea. Although large it’s a very open shrub so I can grown things underneath and see through it to the plants behind. @justin #calycanthus #hartlagewine #deciduousshrub #mygardentoday 10/05/2018
I am always so excited when I discover the first flower on this shrub. It looks too exotic to grow in a British garden but it thrives in mine! #calycanthus #hartlagewine #maroonflowers #mygardentoday 08/05/2018
It's so pretty Barbara. Reminds me very much of a shrub my mom had. She called it a 'pomegranate'. I can't find it anywhere. This may be it. I love the randomness and color of the blooms. Thanks for the close look. I'm going to be looking for one now.
This is such an unusual #shrub with beautiful wine-coloured flowers, hence the name "Hartlage Wine". It has a sprawling habit but it's not so dense that it overpowers its neighbours. One of my all-time favourites! #mygarden #ngsgarden
