Our creative adventure began in 1999, a new house and a bare plot. We were part of the NGS family for 10 years. Now we’re sitting back and relaxing!

This is my all time favourite #allium but it’s a real challenge to grow! I’ve tried it in the borders where it flowered once then was never seen again and I’ve tried it in pots where it produced leaves but no flowers. Last autumn I tried again, planting three bulbs in the flower bed close to the patio where I could keep watch over them. Just one has come up but over the past couple of days it flopped over so I’ve cut it and brought it inside. Read more ⬇️

On the plus side I’ve discovered that it has a wonderful fragrance so I’m happy to have it in a vase now. Has anyone had any luck growing these? #allium-schubertii #bulb #trickybutlovely #mygardentoday #cutflower 💚

That’s interesting, Allison. Maybe I’ve been planting them in the wrong place? 🤔😢😘 @allhop74

@jacaranda I've had purple sensation and nigrum for the past 3 years and only one came up this year. Selling for £150 per bulb on ebay. Madness!

Yes I’ve grown them Barbara and they’ve always been good, this year nothing and I think it may be because other plants have smothered them and the slugs or snails ate them, I need to go and have a look and see if a I can see any signs of them.

I’ve always planted them in full sun, Pauline, so maybe that’s the problem. Allison @allhop74 also mentioned shade so I might have another go in the autumn and plant them in my shady bed. 🤞 @flof1952

The strange weather over the past six months has definitely played a part in how things are growing now. 😳 @allhop74

They’re not very tall, Sarah, so they’re easily lost amongst other things, which is a great pity 😢 I hope you find yours 🤞😘 @sieveheadsarah
