@kylers awe, all it takes is making sure you have them in the right mix and that you know their dormancy schedule! I keep mine in 80% small stones and 20% succulent soil. These guys are native to the deserts of Namibia, it's extremely dry there and they can get less than an inch of rainfall a year! They're dormant during the summer and winter, so they should be watered very little during this time, no more than once every month, and only water them VERY lightly. These are the drought seasons

Once they are active, water them once every 2 weeks. When flowering in the fall, I water once a week. It's important to build up and slow down watering as the seasons change. Don't go from watering every 6 weeks to watering every week. The goal is to mimic nature. So, from summer when watering in tiny amounts, say, once every 6 weeks. You lower the amount of weeks in between as fall approaches and the plant starts to wake up. Same with when dormancy is around the corner. Start increasing the
