Learning as I go. My garden is very exposed to the extreme coastal weather and strong winds. My garden is very much my escape.

I've been doing the distraction of chopping the tops of the fruit off and leaving them out on the ground aswell as putting apple cores out for them. It's not like I'm not sharing with the greedy things. @angiecrazycatlady @charlotte @lostgardener @richard.spicer.7906

#advice-needed What does everyone use to deal with white fly on strawberries?

1w
comment
awomanonabike

I’m afraid I just put up with them. As it’s in flower, if you spray it with an insecticide you’ll risk harming pollinating insects. Make sure there is plenty of air round it, as it’s usually not that much of a problem outside. I hope they just fly away or get gobbled up 🐞

Just what I thought as I've tried spraying with mouthwash and water before and it upset the plants 😏 @awomanonabike

most white fly are tropical and don't survive winter unless you have greenhouse.. encarsia formosa is a tiny wasp that is a predator of whiteflies. early control is important. yellow sticky traps can be used to monitor whiteflies

Thanks Diane. Can I cut off the suckers now? Will they survive winter in the greenhouse?

2w

I wait till they have properly rooted before seperating. Strawberries are hardy they look like they have totally died off but start showing fresh growth early next year. Mine are permanently outside @Cloud9

15/02/17 strawberry fountain planted up. Had quick results from suppliers who are going to put poles in post today for the other one. (Decided my mum could wait for hers 😁😂). Given a little wind support as well making sure planter is away from wall 🐌🐌
