My #grownfromseed #avocado has put on even more #newgrowth this year making more #branches this is my largest and oldest #fromseed avocado im very proud of it. It should be very soon that it will actually make fruit
Last year was first year i left out all winter because she got to dang tall and heavy Jeff @jeatacake i make sure the base is protected as much as possible cus shes in a container..i cant remember exactly how old it is but i def know its more than 9 maybe 10 but not sure how much more fore sure.
That’s huge. I hope yours bears fruit soon. Mine is only three years old and l’m thinking about planting it in the ground so it would have more room for roots. I wish it would bear fruit sooner. But ten years is impressive 💚💚
Thank you @sabbanrula only reason i have mine in a container is because this is rental property and if i olant this near the woodline(i permission to do so there) then i would no longer own my fruit tree it would be landlords property and i couldnt take it with me if i move. Wish it def was sooner. But i couldnt afford to buy older fruit trees to get fruit sooner and my thinking is why waste those seeds. I can grow them for myself and other people as gifts and food for future use. Ty
Oh, It’s a tight situation you’ve got there with planting trees but you are making the best of it. I am sincerely impressed with your work and I know anybody would be mighty happy to get an avocado plant as a gift. I wish you would own your own garden one day soon so you’d have full access and privileges 💚💚💚
Yes i grew it from seed from a seed i got from store bought avocado. Usually takes 10 to 15 years to set fruit. Worth it .. food for future. And you can keep doing it with other seeds and pass them along as gifts as well. Grow min of 2 to help fruit set Laney @laneygarden
I’ve always wanted to grow avocado. But I heard you need a male and female? Is that true? If so, how do you tell the difference to make sure you have right one? Your pic here has encouraged me to at least try. :)
@renatagardens you just need 2 trees they have both male and female parts but both parts dont always open at same time. So best to have 2 going to help .Ive got another few started already. Cus why not. Lol #wastenotwantnot it takes patience tho. Lol https://www.californiaavocadosdirect.com/page.aspx?sp=7
The #grownfromseed #avocado has larger #leaves now doing very well so far. I hope it grows big and strong like my other one I grew from seed thats outside. Now i need to start searching for another large container so i can slowly start filling it up with dirt. Maybe by the time its full this will be ready for outdoor living hahahaha
Sorry that happened to yours Sussanah @Sussanah i keep mine started in water first then small pots till its getting rootbound then up a few pot sizes all indoors untill its big enough to be acclimated to part shade sun but protect well in winter till older. This will be this ones first time out all winter its to tall to be inside my house now lol wont fit even a little
@cyndi unfortunately inside the house is kept quite dark to combat sun. Film on windows. Sheer curtains and heavy shade from trees. I’ll try the water way with new seeds. My niece(little bitch) is an avo fiend. There’s more here to plant.
All the tips of my #avocadotree have #newgrowth and I just noticed today that there's even a #newbranch that's been forming (top pic) I hope it survives winter outdoors this winter cus its now to tall to take indoors again lol #grownfromseed
I wish I could afford it @lesliecole49 I'm on a very tight ssi budget. I have to make 733.00 pay bills supplies for me and pets and food now. It doesn't go far at all.i make it just no extras really any more unless I give up something needed to get something wanted if on clearance but that's very rare I do that.
I don't believe ssi checks are enough to survive on. I used to manage a low income apt building. It's hard watching good people struggle. My budget is very tight too. Thats why I buy clearance plants, don't have but a shovel for digging beds, and my barn roof is still peeled from its moorings. My animals eat better than I do and I have a roommate to help with expenses. Sometimes those blankets go for 3-7 $. They are quilted.
Yet another #avocado baby #grownfromseed it will be a while longer b4 I put in soil. And hopefully ill have money to get some by the time its ready lol. Ill be keeping this one. Ive given away all but my first one. #foodforfutureuse also have more in water starting the process sometimes it takes a very long time and loads of patience. Xo
@brenhaas @terrimclaughlin i put #pointsidedown use tooth picks to hold and every few days I rinse water and seed off till the seed loses all its outer coating. Then just fresh water couple times a week even when it gets roots. I very gently rinse roots under running water to get any slime or yuck off. It takes a long time sometimes for them to just split and start. Loads of patience. Good luck.
My #grownfromseed #avocado has gotten so tall. All shimmery in the flash of my cell. I def need to rearrange my yard differently. I need a dolly to move some things and more muscle hahaha i cant wait till this produces fruit for me. Takes a lot longer when grown from seed. But im #growingforthefuture and never hurts to #growmoretrees #growmoreoxygen #foodforfutureuse
That bigish oak in the background use to get cut down every year when that trailer had someone in it but since its no longer livable and sits empty i begged my old landlord whos now passed to leave it be. Along with 2 others near it. Sorta hides that ugly trailer and gives the birds a safe place to be.
Well done, it's huge! when did you plant it? I plant trees from seed for #growingforthefuture #patienceisavirtue 😅mines are still tiny although I see more progress with the ones in their 3rd year. #growmoreoxygen 👍
I honestly cant remember but I keep growing fruit from seeds every chance i get @leno i share some with others so far ive grow citruses apple pomegranate avocado but i do have some things like my fig ive grown from cuttings. I want to own my own land and be as self sustained as I can be. Plus #wastenotwantnot is a great policy why waste the seeds when you can grow for future generations.
This last winter i lost a #branch and i transplanted after the snow went away and it didnt freeze again to a much larger #recycled-barrel #recycled and its gotten lots of #newgrowth #grownfromseed #avocado every #seed i get I try this because #wastenotwantnot and can always #giftthem out to others. #growfood #sharetheloveofplants #sharingiscaring #growmorethanyouneedtosharewithothers it might take a while to get actual fruit from it but every #foodtree #planted is #foodforfutureuse for generatio
Thanks Kim @kimguy remember put its point down use toothpics to hold in clear glass and refresh water often. It takes a long time. Use a larger avocado. Organic is best so if you find some on sale snag them lol best wishes my friend

I have 6 in process right now Rich its a #wastenotwantnot and #whynotjusttryit project plus even if it never bears fruit for me it will be a tree for shade some birds etc. But im hoping for food as well for me lmao @richard.spicer.7906 i love avocados do t eat near enough cus they are pricy so the start of growing my own a few years ago. Now i have one that hopefully next year or two will give me fruit.
Im sorry you have had trouble they do take a while to split and start @hayhay11 in my pics if ya scroll throught the avocado trees my larger one i did is in there. It can be done. I had few more but lost them due to freaky freeze for 2 days last winter. Never give up. Online also has ways to do them maybe try a dif way.
Definitely agree, we should always try at least once, and if you get the bonus of fruit too then even better jus for the experience! It's a shame these aren't just a little more hardy in the UK - I've heard there are a few avocado trees growing in London where it's slightly warmer with less frosts during the winter.
@richard.spicer.7906 most i heard grow theres indoors where weather gets to cold. And yeap they can be grown indoors well so can lemon and few other fruit trees. In winter most likely would need growlight for extra healthy leaves and such indoors.
Please ignore my #wartsandall gathering #recycling items and the cooler is holding one batch of #garlic . my avocado tree has really grown alot and has even more #newgrowth on it. #sunnyday #chilly #grownfromseed
Im going to try carry this one inside Jeff dont want to risk it this year unless I can get the greenhouse done in time before first freeze then it will go in there. I think its still a little young to try to stay outside becaise of size pot its in @jeatacake thank you
It's a real beauty & it would be a great shame to lose it. I have 4 in my greenhouse, where they are OK, although they do lose all their leaves by the end if winter. By the way, when do you usually get your first frosts there?
Its Ga so who knows lmao seriously the weather changes daily. Last night it said our weather tonight was supposed to be 35°f for lows today its saying 40° only 5 degrees but that makes a huge difference in plants lol ..i have 6 new ones growing nit far along and i wont keep them all myself but might plant somewhere on this property. Or give to someone once safe enough to do so. Lol waste not want not. Planting for the future. Lol @jeatacake
Thank you Laura very much. Means a lot your overlooking the warts lol I love you more for that alone ....💋💋💋 and thank you very much. I only did it to see if I could from seed because someone said its hard and rare to make it happen... I hate when people tell me I cant or shouldnt try at least. Or give encouragement. So had to prove to myself i could now I have 6 types of citrus 2 apples had 3 gifted one out 1 lg avacado and 6 in seed growing stage now. All from seeds from organic fruit on👇
If you have purchased and planted a tree, you can probably expect to see your first fruit 3-4 years after planting. If you are growing from seed, it can take anywhere from 5 to 13 years before the tree is mature enough to set fruit.
No it can Indoors as well if it has a sunny window same with lemons and limes. It will just will take some time. Love man give it love. Use a portable solar panel and a heater in there(greenhouse) if need be. Lol @jeatacake
